Mobile app for detecting, measuring, and recording magnetic fields and metal objects using device magnetometer sensors.
Ever wonder if there's a magnetic field around that power line? Need to detect metal studs behind drywall? Want to conduct electromagnetic field experiments? Tesla Field Recorder turns your smartphone into a precision magnetometer.
Built for iOS and Android, this app uses your device's built-in magnetometer sensor to detect and measure magnetic fields in real-time. The interface shows live measurements in micro Tesla units (µT) with both a gauge for overall field strength and a 3D diagram breaking down the x, y, and z components.
Perfect for:
The app includes automated recording features for long-term measurements, letting you capture data over hours or days without keeping the screen active. All recordings export in CSV format, so you can analyze them in spreadsheet software or scientific tools.
Optional audio feedback gives you a sound signal that changes with field strength—great for scanning walls without constantly watching the screen. The clean, responsive UI works equally well on phones and tablets, and the measurements are accurate enough for serious field work.
This started as an internal tool for testing electromagnetic interference in our own hardware projects, but it became popular enough that we released it publicly. Thousands of users now rely on it for everything from home renovation to science class demonstrations.
